Will Power started from pole position for the fifth time in 2017 as he strived to cut Scott Dixon’s championship lead. Penske team mate Josef Newgarden started alongside him. Having been stood down at the previous round Mikhail Aleshin returned and qualified last for the race he almost won 12 months earlier.
